Introduction

Save Our Wild Isles is the first major jointly led campaign by WWF-UK, the RSPB and the National Trust which brings an urgent call to action for everyone to take steps to immediately halt the destruction of UK nature.

This privacy policy aims to inform you of how and why we process your personal data and sets out your individual rights to keep you in control of your information. The policy only covers this website, which may link to, or host pages from, third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or data processing activities of any third-party sites and encourage you to read the privacy notices and review the practices of all websites you visit.

For the purposes of any personal data collected via this website, WWF-UK (a registered charity in England and Wales 1081247 and in Scotland SC039593 and a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales 4016725) is the data controller and we are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under reference numbers Z6158630 and Z6159804.

If you support the Save Our Wild Isles campaign by emailing your elected representative from this website, the RSPB (a registered charity in England (207076) and Scotland (SC037654)) will be the data controller for any personal data collected for this purpose. In these circumstances your data will be processed in accordance with the privacy information their Privacy Policy. The RSPB is with registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under reference numbers Z5794583 and Z5539068.

Your personal data

WWF-UK takes the responsibility of protecting your privacy very seriously. As part of this responsibility, we will make it clear when your data is being collected, and it will only be used for the purpose you provided it for. By using this website and submitting any forms on it, we process the following personal information:

  • your full name;
  • your email address;
  • your postcode;
  • whether or not you are under or over 18;
  • technical information such as the IP address you use to access the website, your device and details of which version of web browser you used.

If you sign up on behalf of your company to arrange hosting a Save Our Wild Isles business film screening, we will collect some basic details about the event as well as the name of the person hosting the screening, which may not always be you. If you sign up to a campaign action that is hosted on a third-party site you may be required to provide additional information for the purposes of that campaign action. For example your full address will be collected and sent to your elected representative to confirm you are one of their constituents.

We collect this information directly from you for the following reasons:

  • To include you on the Save Our Wild Isles, WWF-UK or the RSPB mailing lists, where you have specifically opted in and provided your consent for us to do so.
  • To allow you to demonstrate your support for the People’s Plan for Nature.
  • To provide you with information and support if you have enquired about hosting a screening event of one of the Save Our Wild Isles business films.
  • We collect your postcode to tailor our communications with you by including regional content relevant to where you live. We will also use it to analyse the reach of the Save Our Wild Isles campaign and to help guide our future activities in representing the whole UK.
  • We ask you to confirm whether you are under or over 18 because it is the policy of the Save Our Wild Isles campaign to only send promotional or marketing materials to adults.
  • If you consent, we will run analytics to better understand how you use the website in order to make improvements, personalise your experience and show you relevant adverts on other sites. This is done through our use of cookies. More information on cookies can be found below.

In a limited number of circumstances WWF-UK may share some of your information with our partner organisations, the RSPB and the National Trust. For instance:

  • To share your information with the RSPB if you have specifically opted in and provided your consent for them to contact you via their own mailing list.
  • If you have expressed an interest in hosting a screening of a Save Our Wild Isles business film, we may share your information with the RSPB and the National Trust as we are working together to contact hosts and offer support for your event.  

If you have supported the People’s Plan for Nature, we may also need to share your name and postcode with UK government officials and MPs to demonstrate who has signed up within their constituency. This will only happen in the unlikely event that they require further evidence about the number of people who have backed the plan.  

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information is:

  • Your consent. You are able to withdraw your consent at any time and can do so by emailing dataprotection@wwf.org.uk
  • We have a legitimate interest – in analysing the success and reach of the campaign and providing you with more relevant content, based upon where you live in the UK.

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.  

When you navigated to the Save Our Wild Isles website, a notice alerting you to our use of cookies and other similar technologies will have been displayed. If you click “Accept” you are providing your consent to our use of those cookies and similar technologies for the purposes described in this policy. You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking on the icon in the bottom corner of the page. 

Targeting cookies may be set through the website and used to show you relevant adverts on other sites and social media platforms. They do not store personal information that directly identifies you but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising. WWF-UK, the RSPB, and the National Trust will also use tracking pixels (for example, from social media platforms) to track and report on the marketing spend that each charity uses to drive traffic to the Save Our Wild Isles website.   

Where you are viewing embedded content on our website, this may be provided via a third party service. If you choose to view this content, third party cookies will be placed on your device which will collect your personal data. Please refer to the relevant third party’s privacy policy for further detail. We do not control such third party cookies or have access to information collected by them.

How we store your personal information

We will only keep your personal information for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it is collected, which may include the purpose of satisfying any legal, accounting or reporting requirements.

We will keep your data for the duration of the Save Our Wild Isles campaign, and then for a further twelve months. It will then be securely deleted. Where you have specifically requested to hear from the partners separately then your information will be processed in line with the WWF-UK Privacy Policy and The RSPB Privacy Policy respectively.

International transfers

For the purposes of the Save Our Wild Isles campaign, we will collect and store your personal information in Mailchimp, our chosen marketing platform. As Mailchimp are a US company this means that your information will be stored outside of the UK and EEA. In order to ensure that your personal data receives the same level of security, and your individual rights are protected, WWF-UK has put in place appropriate safeguards in the form of the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Commission Standard Contractual Clauses.

In order to provide the campaign action which allows you to email your elected representative directly from this website, the RSPB have contracted Engaging Networks to help deliver this functionality. Engaging Networks are a company based in Canada and the US, meaning that your personal data will be processed in those countries. In order to ensure that your personal data receives the same level of security, and your individual rights are protected the RSPB has put in place an International Data Transfer Agreement.

Your data protection rights

In relation to our processing of your personal data, data protection law provides you with a number of rights. These include:

  • Your right of access - to ask us for copies of your personal information.
  • Your right to rectification - to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate.
  • Your right to erasure - to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to restriction of processing - to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to object to processing - the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any fee for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you. Please contact WWF-UK by emailing dataprotection@wwf.org.uk if you wish to make a request.

Changes to this policy

We may amend or update this policy at any time to take account of any changes to data protection law or other relevant legislation. When further updates to the policy are made they will be posted on this page, so please check back here regularly.
